We require Technology Developers. Right now!

July 2, 2008

At Arun Verma Design Studio, we’ve been working with a host of clients in the US, UK and India across varied
creative domains.

Now, we have some immediate requirements for technology developers and was wondering if we have people within this group who would like to work in a fantastic environment and work on some brilliant ideas
that we’ve been toying with. As someone who’ll be working with us, you might not know everything about technology but should have the ‘fire within’ to learn, experiment and make mistakes. You should be creative and logical, should be a self starter with an ability to troubleshoot and deal with software programming problems. Basically, you should have an attitude for finding ’solutions’.

Please do read more about careers with us.

The details of the technology developers that we’re looking for are as follows.

Number of openings: 3

Years of experience: 2+ years

Languages: PHP 4&5 (min 2 years experience)

Databases: MySQL and PostgeSQL (min 1 year experience)

CMS: Drupal (min 6 month experience; the more the merrier)

Scripting Languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX

If you fit the bill, or would like to do somebody else a favour, tell them about this. Please get in touch with me on 9811214413 or write to me.

Look forward to having you on board.

A Logo For 7 Years Of Creativegarh?

August 9, 2007

Creativegarh Logo

7 years? Already?

Yes! Creativegarh will soon be 7 years old, that is, on the 12th of September 2007.

And what could be a better way to celebrate Creativegarh’s seventh birthday than by giving it a beautiful birthday gift that’ll last for one whole year.

How about a logo to celebrate the 7 Years of Creativegarh?

We’ve been creating a commemoratory logo for the two years inhouse. [ You can see the '6 Years of Creativegarh' logo here. ] And this time, we thought, why not have the members of the community come up with a logo.

The brief is simple, and wide open.
We need a logo that captures the essence of Creativegarh as you see it. It needs to say ‘Celebrating 7 Years of Creativegarh’ or anything better that you can come up with as long as ‘Creativegarh’ is a part of the line / phrase / copy. Also, the logo should translate easily across mediums and across sizes and should look ‘equally good’ in black and white. One more thing. The 7 Years Logo should ‘preferably’ use the Creativegarh colours. Green and Blue to signify that that it is a global community. Black to signify the magic and mystery that creativity holds. And white to signify the purity of the creative expression. The ‘CG’ swirl in the centre of the Creativegarh logo signifies the energy associated with creative thinking.

An EPS version of the Creativegarh logo can be downloaded from here

5 logos will be shortlisted by a panel from within the Creativegarh community itself. And then, the entire community will vote for their favourite logo. Democratic as always.

How to send in your entries?
All participating members are requested to send in their designs to me  in .jpg format, in a minimum size of 4×4 inches (450×450 pixels @ 72 dpi). A higher resolution version may also be requested. Please mark the subject of the mails as ‘Creativegarh logo’ and please send it latest by Friday, the 31st of August 2007.

Who can participate?
Anyone and everyone. Logo designers, freelancers, design companies, individuals or anyone who is feeling creative enough and thinks he / she can do a good job of it. And we’re sure you can.

And finally, what’s in it for you?
Oh come on, don’t ask that! This is the least you can do for a community that really tries to do so much for you. But yes, if your logo is the winner, we’ll make sure you get due credit wherever this logo is used – on partner websites, on blogs, other forums, and all Creativegarh collateral. What’s more, the entire Creativegarh community will give you a standing ovation. In addition to this, we’ll ensure that we use your services on a live and paid logo design project for a client within the next 6 months. And if that’s not enough, I personally promise you a fantastic meal with unlimited wine whenever we meet in person. It’ll be great to have your company.

Please feel free to forward this post to your friends / colleagues and associates.

Looking forward to some mindblowing designs.

For creativity,
Arun Verma

Creativegarh Design Studio Requires Techie / Web Developer

August 1, 2006

I don’t like the idea of posting our openings on my blog but this time, we are a little desperate. So, if you know of someone who fits the bill, please forward this post to them and forward their details to me.

~~~
Creativegarh Design Studio is a one-stop-creative-hotshop based in a small and cosy garage in Noida (NCR Delhi). We provide our clients in India, Europe and the USA with a host of creative services ranging from logo designs to setup and maintenance of e commerce engines. And while doing this, we also design film sets, exhibition stalls, shoes, furniture, bags, jewelry, curate art shows, make films – in a nutshell almost everything that interests us and comes our way.
We follow what we call the ‘film-production-model’ for design and development where depending on the requirements of a project, we pick up the best possible talent available (mostly from within the Creativegarh community) and work together till the logical conclusion of the project. And needless to say, if we bond and build a good rapport with a professional, we ensure that we work together, more often. In the process, we have built a very close-knit group of freelancers / professionals who are accessible to each other round the clock / when clients strike.
While we have proven to our clients many times over that our ‘film-production-model’ works best, we also have a small team in house that manages all projects and helps run the day to day development for existing clients. Even the inhouse team works on a very interesting retainership model. For this inhouse team, we need a full-time techie who is willing to work with us and take our dream forward.
Let’s start with what we expect from you:
a. You should have expert-level knowledge of current standards-based and open systems front-end *web* development techniques (hand-coded HTML, HTML forms, Javascript and CSS across various platforms and browsers).
b. You should have expert level knowledge of PHP / MySQL. It’ll be great if you are familiar with Perl / ASP / JSP.
c. You should have a good knowledge of various kinds of hosting environments required and should have the ability to integrate web front-ends with backend applications /databases through API’s provided.
d. Experience with setting up e-commerce engines and with open-source CMS’s such as Drupal and Typo3 is a plus plus plus.
Having said this, we’d like to reiterate that you needn’t know all this / everything but should be willing to learn and research on your own and provide a solution when required.
What we are really interested in is a ’solution’ attitude coupled with great skills.
You are free to work with us from our premises or yours and we’ll give you enough work to have your undivided attention. Even if you choose to work from your own premises, you should be open to come over to our office at a short notice.
Also, deadlines and quality are sacrosanct for us. So, we’d like you tofollow that as well.
Now, what can you expect from us? / Why should you work for us?
a. We love what we do. We work 18 hours a day, yet we have a life.
b. We work for international and Indian clients. We have exclusive tie-ups with VC companies and design houses in the US.
c. We do every possible design work.
d. We are a small team. So, we have no hang-ups about life. We all are coffee-boys and CEOs rolled into one.
e. When we work late nights, we take bread-omlette-maggi-and-tea-breaks at a roadside stall. So many times, we work late nights, just to have omlettes.
f. We try to take weekends off.
g. Our clients love us. Most of our clients become friends. Most of our friends become clients.
h. We work with young self motivated individuals who see themselves as successful entrepreneurs in the next 5 years.
i. We don’t go out and pitch for business. For us, the best business we get is one that comes from references. And repeat business.
j. We have an interesting payment model. What you earn depends on your value to the company. It’s a simple retainership + bonus + project percentage formula.
i. We’re always on your side. We’ll even fight for you.
Interested? Know someone who would be. Call me NOW on 9811214413! Or write to me.
Remember, we work 18 hours so most probably we’re up right now.
And yes, we are also looking for a junior web designer.
Overcoming Creator’s Block
March 19, 2006
Here are a few suggestions on overcoming creator’s block.
1. For architectural design:
a. Pick up a few architectural design magazines and go through them, but don’t just look at the pictures. Take some paper and a pencil and *draw* what you like in the pictures, paying attention to the forms and detailing. I’ve found that for some reason this really stimulates the brain and soon you will be getting new ideas for your project. Note: you’re not copying the ideas, you’re putting yourself into a creative / designing frame of mind.
2. General design creative blocks:
a. Take a break!! Do something else for a while. Go watch a movie with friends, do some exercise or go for a jog, go somewhere you’ve never been.
b. Do some deep breathing and relaxation exercises.
c. Make a Mind Map of the problem. Lots of resources on the net if you’re not familiar with this.
d. Lie in bed, relax, breathe evenly for a while, let yourself drift into that state between sleep and wakefulness. Assume a Higher Self is there with you, as a real presence; an aspect of yourself who knows everything and is always on hand to help you out. Ask her to show you your answer. Note down what you see later, or record it into a tape recorder as you see it in your mind’s eye.
e. Try to see the problem through another’s eyes. How would a child see it? Arnold Schwartznegger? A very rich person? A thief?
f. Look at the various aspects of the problem. What can you make change: make bigger, stronger, more vivid? What can you tone down? What can you invert? What can you remove? What can you add?
g. Close your eyes, relax, listen to some lovely music, music that carries you far, far away, to a place where you get your answer…
h. Think about: what is the essence of the problem? Now take a book and know that your question will be answered within. Open it at random and read the first sentence you see. how can you fit it to a new understanding of the problem?
i. Involve someone else. Have a brainstorming session.
j. Work from the end backwards. What are you trying to say? If you said it successfully, how would you have done it?
k. Finally, just make a start. Do something, even if you consider it basic, put it aside for a while and come back to it later. Your designer’s eye will immediately tell you how to make it better.
